EDIT: Okay, so I've updated this! Re-wrote and improved it a lot. I wasn't happy with the old tutorial anymore, and I think this one explains everything better.
Part two has also been updated, you can find it here: [link]
Warning: fairly big image.
Tell me if this helps, and feel free to show me anything you make with the help of this tutorial. I'd like to see how I have helped people.
hello...
I was surfing new submissions today and bumped onto your post
well I think I can make a comment on this one since I am a vector artist
this is not a good tutorial to teach newbies who want to learn vector art
teaching another to trace over a photograph is wrong
working the tools of illustrator is good
working with a sketch you doodled your self like on paper or in Photoshop is good
tracing a photo like this
sorry wrong on all counts you are teaching the easy way out
maybe this was the way you were taught?
I am a tut free let me add and I collect many on my site
check em out some time maybe you will learn something [link]
crap I went to your DA front page you are (Current Age: 13) holy crap...
ok you being so young you should stray away from working like this
thats my 2 cents I hope you understand
one more thing what you showed here its called the RING EFFECT
this is not how you make skin this is not how you shadow a human figure...
and see this is what you think is the right way... but now you are doing the same teaching other people to do it like this
sorry for sounding cruel or making a negative comment on your post. I am just trying to point out this is not the way to go
I see you have potential tho
checking out your DA gallery Fourjays I can see you use illustrator and know what you are talking about right?
and yes it does matter cause her end result looks like filter usage from a photo done in Photoshop
there are many ways to make a vector look real some people use the mesh tool to get good looking skin
honestly I am going to stop commenting on this post you can all do it the way you want I don't care
I thought I would throw in some advice to someone who is interested in creating vector art
meaning my comment was too "Tasha25" the author of this post.
have a nice day
see ya!
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More

As long as you end up with the right look in the end...

It's ok if you want to show her another way, but not discrediting hers.
I hope I don't come accross as a meany, I'm simply stating what I think.
Cheers!
