Artist's Comments

EDIT: Okay, so I've updated this! Re-wrote and improved it a lot. I wasn't happy with the old tutorial anymore, and I think this one explains everything better. :)

Part two has also been updated, you can find it here: [link]

Warning: fairly big image.

Tell me if this helps, and feel free to show me anything you make with the help of this tutorial. I'd like to see how I have helped people. :)

hello...
I was surfing new submissions today and bumped onto your post
well I think I can make a comment on this one since I am a vector artist
this is not a good tutorial to teach newbies who want to learn vector art
teaching another to trace over a photograph is wrong
working the tools of illustrator is good
working with a sketch you doodled your self like on paper or in Photoshop is good
tracing a photo like this
sorry wrong on all counts you are teaching the easy way out :(
maybe this was the way you were taught?
I am a tut free let me add and I collect many on my site
check em out some time maybe you will learn something :|

crap I went to your DA front page you are (Current Age: 13) holy crap...
ok you being so young you should stray away from working like this
thats my 2 cents I hope you understand :|
one more thing what you showed here its called the RING EFFECT
this is not how you make skin this is not how you shadow a human figure...
:iconpamzylove:
edit sorry typo *I am a tut free let me add and I collect many on my site* meant I am a TUT freak! and I have many on my site.
:icontasha25:
I have seen a lot of the best vector artists doing it this way. :\ And being young means I have plenty of time to learn other ways.
:iconpamzylove:
and see this is what you think is the right way... but now you are doing the same teaching other people to do it like this
sorry for sounding cruel or making a negative comment on your post. I am just trying to point out this is not the way to go
I see you have potential tho :)
:iconfourjays:
Does it matter?

As long as you end up with the right look in the end...

There are no rights or wrongs in art. Art is personal, what you want it to be. If people like to do it this way, well, let them be.

It's ok if you want to show her another way, but not discrediting hers.

I hope I don't come accross as a meany, I'm simply stating what I think. :)

Cheers!
:iconpamzylove:
checking out your DA gallery Fourjays I can see you use illustrator and know what you are talking about right? ;)
and yes it does matter cause her end result looks like filter usage from a photo done in Photoshop
there are many ways to make a vector look real some people use the mesh tool to get good looking skin
honestly I am going to stop commenting on this post you can all do it the way you want I don't care
I thought I would throw in some advice to someone who is interested in creating vector art
meaning my comment was too "Tasha25" the author of this post.
have a nice day
see ya!

:icontasha25:
